San Francisco's Moscone Goes 3D

May 2009

Tradeshow Week - May 11, 2009 -- The San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau and San Francisco's Moscone Center have turned to the hospitality division of New Media Gateway, a Texas-based online marketing firm, to create an interactive 3D virtual tour of the 742,000 square foot Moscone Center, which should be completed by July.

Meeting planners now will have the ability to make a virtual site visit of the city's largest convention and meeting space remotely from anywhere with an Internet connection.

Kathryn Horton, SFCVB's senior director of convention events and services, said, “This new technology will allow meeting planners to recognize Moscone Center as an ideal meeting venue, as well as the leader in high-tech meeting facilities.”

According to Greg Colunga, New Media Gateway's vice president of marketing, the virtual rendering will help the SFCVB and Moscone Center track the number of individuals or groups interested in their venue and destination.

The two entities will be able to see the total number of visits and visitors who've taken the tour during a certain period per month, and they'll be able to track which rooms have been visited so they can accurately link it to proposals, leads and bookings.

“Almost all destination marketing organizations and convention centers promote themselves as technologically advanced,” said Lou McErlean, New Media Gateway's vice president of hospitality. “Yet, the vast majority of sites don't feature Interactive 3D content.”

He added, “SFCVB and Moscone Center are walking the walk, and meeting professionals will notice.”
